Digital signatures offer a way of signing a document, file or email using your private digital certificate in a way that keeps the content unencrypted, but makes it possible to verify the sender. A digital signature "proves" that the communication originated from the person identified as the sender and that the contents have not been altered. It does not protect the contents of the communication from being read.
